Posing guide: Tips for posing for your wedding film

Many couples feel stressed and intimidated because they strive for more natural and authentic posing during their wedding video filming. Although it might not seem like an easy job, natural posing for your film can be achieved with the help of your photographer/videographer and a couple of guided steps. Therefore, to make your wedding more comfortable and joyful, we have prepared a posing guide that will lead you to more natural poses during your videos.

  • Don’t forget to smile

Smiling is the key to a successful video shoot, hence the top position on our posing guide! Videos and photographs with many smiles are generally more charming, even if you might not think so. If you are one of those people that believe that their smile is not good enough for the camera, ignore the thought immediately.

As professional videographers, we can tell from experience that smiles work wonders for wedding films. They allow you to achieve that natural effect everyone strives for when celebrating the most special day of their lives. You might think your smile might look awkward, but it is all about relaxing and actually being a bit silly! For example, you can whisper to your partner’s ear some inside joke and have a laugh about it! Or, you can also close your eyes while faced with your beloved and open them at the same time, and trust us, you will smile!

  • Avoid looking directly at the camera

The most certain way your video will turn out forced and unnatural is by looking directly at the camera. Your wedding film needs to be spontaneous as if no videographer is present. So, direct your look at your partner or some details on the bridal attire. Another option is to look on the horizon and achieve the dreamy, magical look couples have in their videos.

Your videographer may ask you to look at the camera at some point, but that will probably be because of some concept and technique they have in mind. Otherwise, stick to this tip of our wedding film posing guide to be on the safe side.

  • Use different facial expressions

You may believe that you have one facial expression that makes you look good while posing. But, trust us, there are many ways to evoke a candid look.

In order to conceive a more natural one, make sure to relax your face and lips in between shooting. You can also try closing your eyes before the filming resumes to rest your face and look fresher on the video. While your eyes are closed, recall a memory that fills your heart, and allow that emotion to take over. To evoke confidence, think about how much you two have grown together, and look at your partner with fondness and trust that you two can overcome everything.

  • Work on your movements

Since we are talking about videography here, it goes without saying that movement is mandatory, not only in our posing guide but in general.

Think about touching your partner, adjusting your attire, or playing with the bouquet. Moreover, work with your arms and legs. Crossing your legs is always an elegant option, while putting your hand on your hip is a chic one.

  • Search for inspiration

The Internet exists to help you find exactly what you are looking for. You can watch our favorite wedding films and see what you can incorporate into your own. Don’t miss out on the Hollywood scene and their poses – there is always something you can take and adjust to your style.

Making your wedding film should be joyful, and you should not be intimidated by your videographer even for one second. They are professionals and here to help you, so work with them and enjoy your day. We hope that our posing guide will help you achieve that!
